The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently unveiled plans for a major road improvement project that aims to transform transportation in the city. With a contract worth Dhs700 million, the Al Khail Improvement Project will bring significant changes to the way people move around Dubai.

The project will involve the construction of bridges spanning over 3,000 meters, connecting various points in the city. Covering a 6,820-meter area along Al Khail Road, the project will benefit areas such as Zabeel, Meydan, Al Qouz 1, Ghadeer Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle.

The primary objectives of this project are to enhance the road’s capacity, alleviate traffic congestion, and improve the overall flow of vehicles. To achieve these goals, several bridges will be built at key locations. A three-lane, 700-meter bridge will be constructed at Zabeel, capable of accommodating up to 4,800 vehicles per hour. Additionally, a two-lane, 610-meter bridge will connect Meydan Street and Ras Al Khor Street, supporting 3,200 vehicles per hour. Another two-lane, 700-meter bridge is planned to connect Al Khail Road and Hessa Street at Jumeirah Village Circle.

Furthermore, the project includes the addition of a new lane in AlJaddaf to widen Al Khail Road and improve traffic flow to Deira. Additionally, Business Bay will see the addition of another lane on Al Khail Road to enhance traffic flow into the area.

The announcement of this road expansion project aligns with the recent call for improved traffic infrastructure in Dubai and the UAE. The RTA made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) following a directive from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of UAE, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai. The contract was awarded under the supervision of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai.

This significant investment in road infrastructure reflects Dubai’s commitment to continuously improving transportation networks and ensuring smooth mobility for residents and visitors alike. The Al Khail Improvement Project is set to bring about positive changes in the city’s transportation system, enhancing connectivity and easing congestion on one of Dubai’s key roads.
